Volume 3 was commissioned to refurbish the stair and lift hall within an Edwardian mansion block in Kensington, London. The hall contained a lift that was approaching 100 years old and needed to be replaced which begets the upgrading of all interior finishes while the units of the building were to remain occupied.
The accepted design delivered new ceiling, wall and floor finishes, along with new services to the flats, and a soft lighting scheme that highlights the Edwardian details of the staircase. The new 8-story lift comprised of steel and glass was designed to achieve a pleasant contrast with the finishes while reflecting the ornamental décor of the interior. The narrow confines of the atrium required the structural and pre-fabricated components to be delivered and installed by crane via a new roof light at the top of the lift hall.
