A private client approached Volume 3 to combine two vertically adjacent, 3-bedroom flats within an Edwardian mansion block along the river Thames in Putney. The client wanted a home to reflect his changing lifestyle and sought to enhance the entertaining and collective spaces of the flat while reducing the amount of individual rooms.
The project involved a complete restructuring and interior renovation that involved removing large portions of the floor plates to allow for the insertion of a grand staircase and the creation of a double-height living area, which overlooks the river Thames.
Despite the project being located within the Putney Embankment Conservation Area, Volume 3 was able to secure approval to design and install a double-height, movable façade assembly to compensate for the insufficient balcony space. This effectively opened the former living area into an expansive loggia. After completion, the client returned and commissioned the practice to complete the interior styling by sourcing artefacts, furniture and artworks.
