A client purchased this large home, with the intention of a full renovation while adding a guesthouse, in the Zhukovka neighbourhood of Moscow.
Volume 3 proposed a full reorganization of the interior around a new central atrium to visually unify the above floors to the ground level. The reconfiguration places greater emphasis on the collective spaces, with a new entrance sequence and the enlargement of the living area to reflect the addition of the extensive outdoor terrace and barbeque.
The exterior incorporates atypical masonry detailing, particularly in the fenestrations, to underscore the curvature of the large roof extensions and new zinc roof. In keeping with the design intent of the primary home, the 3-bedroom guesthouse incorporates a similar approach to the masonry and zinc vernacular, in addition to containing an expansive banya, a type of Russian steam bath.
